Est. 1984

1984 saw the birth of the Apple Mac, Sweden won Eurovision, O-Levels became GCSEs and Band Aid's 'Do They Know it's Christmas' hit #1 (and every festive party playlist since). Virgin Atlantic flew its maiden voyage, Murder She Wrote made its TV debut, John Galliano graduated from St Martins with his infamous degree show and Arnold Schwarzenegger said "I'll be back" for the first time. The Filofax was the ultimate status symbol and it was the last year that the £1 pound note was in circulation. Ugly Betty, Prince Harry, Katy Perry, Alexander Wang and Scarlett Johansson were all born in '84, and on Christmas Eve so was I.

Gird your loins; William Tempest is coming to the high-street! The designer with the Midas touch is to launch his first capsule collection with specially commissioned pieces for River Island.

Those in the know, will be familiar with the British designer’s intricate attention to detail and immaculately constructed garments, which are by no means compromised in his more affordable range for River Island. Expect the unexpected - mixed of course with a typically Tempest serving of power-dressing-meets-sex-kitten.

The collaboration comes as part of the River Island Fashion Forum and will make its debut via a short film at London Fashion Week’s second biannual FASH/ON FILM festival. This new initiative has been devised by the British Fashion Council in conjunction with River Island, aiming to support and develop creative film in the industry. This stellar offering by WT will be available in stores and online from October 2012.

A storm is coming to the UK high-street, and his first name’s William.
